Welcome to a new year. We've got a lot to do and The Platia has a few classes on offer already.
In January, The Platia is hosting a deescalation event that is at capacity. If you want to attend the next one, please let me know.
In February, join us for a CPR class. The dummy for this class is expensive, so there will be a $30 cost to attend, which is still way below regular CPR class rates. For that price, you will be trained in CPR but will not receive a certificate, and also leave with emergency items you may need for your community, like overdose kits and wound care kits, and we will have beverages. Sign up here.
We're also putting together warming kits with our friends The Everywhere Project on Feb 15. Join us to learn what people who sleep on the streets need during the colder seasons, share baked goods and talk about solutions we can do in our own communities. This event is totally free, but bringing baked goods is encouraged. If you can't make it, please consider buying an item off the wish list for us to pack.
In March, I will personally host another FOIA training. At that event we'll share how to file a Freedom of Information Act request and come up with scenarios where we'd need to request information from the government that would otherwise be held back. .
As always, if there's a training you want that I have not offered, let me know. There's a lot to be done right now, from feeding neighbors, to childcare and other community support roles. Let me know what would help you to learn more about.
With gratitude,
Annemarie
