How you can make a difference in Philly this week
Two civic events and one request for recipes to help folks just learning to cook.
I'm working on the October volunteering calendar as we speak, after getting back from seeing family in Greece for a few weeks. I am fully rested and inspired and ready to get back out there!
This week there are two events where you can make a difference and become a more engaged citizen - and I will be at both of them. Come hang with me!
Friday, October 9th: make coffee for neighbors at Mifflin Park.
Our regular Friday food distribution is prepping for colder seasons, and this week will be the first appearance of the hot tea and coffee table. Come serve folks who don't usually get hot beverage options at the beverage table from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Mifflin Square Park in South Philly. Reach out to me (by replying to the newsletter) if you're coming and I will prep you!
Saturday, October 10th: Learn skills to fight misinformation.
This is a donation-based event ($3 or more to cover the venue) where you will hang out with journalists and learn the skills they use to fight for your community. We'll go over public records requests, asking good questions and identifying falsehoods. We'll also serve coffee and breakfast.
We'll be at the Love Lab on Market Street and you can register at this link.
Sunday Love Project is looking for recipes.
Margaux Murphy who does a lot of great with with Sunday Love Project, is actively putting together a book of recipes for folks who utilize the Greater Goods free grocery store. Greater Goods offers classes to teach folks how to create healthy and nutritious meals with easily found ingredients and Murphy is collecting recipes that do exactly that. Respond to her public thread to send a recipe her way - it takes no more than a few minutes!
In a few days, I'll have the full calendar of October volunteering sessions and more info on soup cooking season, which many mutual aid groups will need your help with!
Reach out if you have any questions, or if you have a civic event I should know about.
